Update - August 22nd at 1:15 p.m.

All...thanks to Ellyn Sergio, I have an update about Bennett and the start of his ECMO procedure.

According to Ellyn, Travis was able to see Bennett after the procedure began today. Bennett is still very critical, but for right now the doctors are pleased with how well Bennett has handled everything so far. The latest report was that Bennett's oxygen levels were perfect! Praise God! The machine is still doing everything for him (breathing, heart beating), but it gives his body the opportunity it needs to heal from everything.

The prayer pager was delivered to Travis and Kelly this morning. Reports are that it still continues to go off every couple of minutes, and from time to time, it goes off for 10 or more than 10 seconds at a time. Thanks so much for continuing to support Travis, Kelly, and Bennett in this way. I know that it means more to them than they're able to express.

Finally, I got a report from Bonnie Abbott that Travis' dad has now arrived in D.C. and that his brother should be arriving here from Detroit tonight. I'm thankful that Travis will have these two new means of support. I'm also thankful that his dad and his brother will have the comfort of being here in person to support Travis and Kelly.

Please continue to offer prayers on behalf of Travis, Kelly, and Bennett, and don't forget to use the prayer pager to let them know you've prayed for them! The instructions on how to use the prayer pager are on the right column of this page.

Also, please continue to write notes of support and love to Travis and Kelly on this site, on the tot site (using the "Bennett's Site" link at the right), or on both. I will continue to print the comments and take them to Travis, Kelly, and their families so they can have a tangible means of knowing how much we're thinking about them and praying for them right now.

Praise God for this bit of good news! You go Bennett, let that machine do the work for you, and you just concentrate on healing up.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH YOU, LORD! We claim that, we stand upon that truth. Show your glory! We remember what you did for Emily Schad and Lauren Schwamb! Show your glory again!

Kelly and Travis:
I can't begin to write out all that I am thinking and praying and singing and rejoicing over and crying about. But know that David and I are thinking of all of you and lifting you both up to the Father. I love you both so much and I think of you when I read these words from Hannah in 1 Samuel 1: 27-28: "I prayed for this boy, and since the Lord gave me what I asked Him for, I now give the boy to the Lord. For as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord." I trust that the Lord has great plans for Bennett; He is already being glorified through Bennett! May God continue to heal him and grow him mighty and strong! I'm sure you know that in Latin, Bennett means "blessed"! I can't wait to see all the ways the Lord will BLESS us through precious Bennett!! Love to the Speck clan, the Shunk clan, and to you both!!

We will continue to pray for healing, peace, and the gift of God’s love to cover you in the hours and days ahead. Many people from Michigan and St. Louis are praying for you and your precious son. May God be Glorified in ALL THINGS.

Greetings Trav, Kelly, Bennett, Randy, Mama Kathy, Papa Steve and Mama Cilla from Dallas!

We wish we could beam ourselves right over there to your room and hug each of you in person. You know we are consumed in prayer for all of you this week. Ken sends special blessings to you from around the world. Trav- he wants you to know that he is thinking and praying for you and that you're doing such a great job as a dad just a couple of days into the job!

I am thrilled to hear that my buddy Bennett is responding to the oxygenation treatment. Tell him if he wants to sing crazy good like his daddy, he'd better work on those big boy lungs! It will be good practice for keeping mom and dad up at night when you want something!

Kelly, dear friend- we are sending you big blog-hugs and a virtual pot roast while I'm at it for good measure. Food seems to be that universal comfort tool, right? Please let us all know how you are getting around after surgery.

We love, love, love you so much!

Kell and Travis,

I cannot stop thinking, praying, and weeping over your family, as I plead to the Lord to heal Bennett. Each time you see a "37174" zip on your pager, it is the equivalent of at least 10-20 prayers that I've prayed. I love you so much.

There is a group of 75 ladies in our prayer ministry at 4th Ave. praying over Bennett as we speak. I am also planning to talk with several of our shepherds tonight at church to pray on your behalf.

Because of the Cross,

Deborah Bills
